Ariana, a Microgaming slot machine with 5 reels and 25 win lines, is inspired by the ocean and its many riches. Besides the focus on treasures, there seems to be a main character here, a mermaid called Ariana which is also one of the symbols. There are a number of interesting features which are part of Ariana, including its stacked and expanding symbols, along with scatters, free spins and wilds. The jackpot promised by the game goes up to $12,500.
Betting & Jackpots
As most Microgaming slots do, Ariana also lets you modify multiple options when you’re adjusting the wager. You have the value of the coins, between $0.01 and $0.50, followed by the number of coins per line, which is between 1 and 10. The number of lines is fixed at 25, and the betting range will be from $0.25 to $125.
A $12,500 jackpot is possible when the scatter is in five positions on the reels, paying in that case 100x the wager, or 25,000 coins.
One of the things that sets this game apart is the use of certain symbols which are stacked on certain reels, and which can expand similar symbols from other reels. For example, if you have a stacked mermaid on the 1st reel, which covers all three positions, it will expand there, and it will also expand similar symbols from all other reels. The possibility of getting multiple winning combinations during a single spin is very good, as long as you get that initial stacked icon on the entire reel.
The slot uses the typical wild as well, its symbol having the Ariana logo on it. You use it as a symbol which forms its own combinations, or you take advantage of its power to replace another symbol. The only symbol that it can’t replace is the Starfish scatter.
Starfish scatters will appear between three and five times on the reels, and they will bring the player 15 free spins and prizes of up to 100x the bet. You get the wild stacked on the 1st reel while in free spins mode, and you can retrigger this feature with another 3+ scatters.
The themed parts of the design look great, with the background showing the bottom of the sea, with plant life and schools of fish moving around. The reels do get some very well done themed symbols as well, but they also have those ugly poker cards which so many older slots tend to have, and they do annoy somewhat.
There are a lot of slot machines on the market that sport a similar theme, and unfortunately Ariana doesn’t do it justice. It has its good sides when it comes to the visuals, but there are downsides as well. The features are the ones that are most interesting, especially the expanding symbols.
