mGaming awards recognise the best in the mobile gambling industry
Mobile gambling brands were recognised for their exceptional performance in the industry at the mGaming awards last month. The reward ceremony concluded the four-day mGaming summit in London, and was hosted by iGaming Business and sponsored by MicroGaming.
Awards were given in seven different categories, including Best Mobile Sports Betting Operator and Best Mobile Billing Application. The standout brand was Paddy Power, who won three awards for Best Gambling App, Innovation in Mobile and scooped the Best Mobile Sports Betting Operator title for the Paddy Power Sportsbook.
Other winners included mFortune for Best Mobile Casino Operator, PokerStars for Best Poker Operator and Open Market for Best Mobile Billing Applications. Mecca Bingo swopped the Best Mobile Bingo Operator award. Rank Group, the parent company of Mecca Bingo recently offered a deal to the Treasury, which would see them open new clubs for the first time in years and generate new jobs in return for a tax rate in line with other gambling operators.
Currently, gambling operators in the UK face a 15 per cent Gross Gaming Revenue, but bingo operators are made to pay 20 per cent duty. In addition to this, Rank Group have also published a ‘Game Plan’ report and presented it to over 150 Member of Parliament.
Harry from BingoFind an independent reviewer of online bingo sites said the following “the winners were certainly deserved, it should also be noted that mobile gaming has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, and the mGaming awards highlight just how seriously the industry is taking this growth”.
The Rank ‘Game Plan’ calls upon the government to bring bingo taxation down to the 15 per cent rate that other operators are made to pay on revenue. The report also states the need for the government to ease up on restrictive regulation in order to allow gambling brands “to maximise the benefits to society and the economy while minimising costs.” The Chief Executive of Rank, Ian Burke stated: “We must challenge ourselves to offer more to society – and to make sure that our efforts are visible and valued.”
