On December 23, 2011 the Department of Justice got rid of the confusion when it comes to the Wire Act of 1961 and revealed that this act only pertained to sports betting which would make it so that it was legal for other forms of gambling to take place online. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is now one of the only things making it somewhat difficult to gamble online, this act was passed in 2006 and prohibits players from making deposits with their bank account or credit card. Some feel that the new revelation is a threat to traditional gambling in casinos around the world, others feel that the legalization and regulation of internet gambling will actually boost revenue for some states like California for instance, millions of dollars have been found going over seas for online gambling & poker, this has sparked the interest of law makers within the state. In Washington DC the state lottery features games to play for real money made available on the lottery’s website. Nevada, New York, Illinois & California are all states that are actively trying to pass bills to allow individuals and companies to apply for licenses to operate online casinos, some casinos are already getting a head start on this opportunity and are offering casino games on their websites for free play. Part of the reason why online gambling has such a negative reputation is because many feel that it enables minors to start gambling at an early age, many do not understand that when signing up for an online casino account, a player must submit supporting documents to verify identity.

The federal government allows each state to decide which forms of gambling they would like to allow, in addition each state can set restrictions for age limits on each different kind of gambling. There are many different forms of gambling. Currently there is only one state that does not allow any kind of online gambling which is Washington. Throughout the world there has only been one arrest and conviction for online gambling. Other forms of gambling found within the world are state lotteries, pari-mutuel betting for horse racing and greyhound racing, land based casinos, charity bingo events and poker rooms.
