Match Play 21 Rules

Match Play 21 Rules

Match Play 21 is very similar to Blackjack, the players are pinned against the dealer. The hand of the person sitting next to you won’t have any difference on what happens with your hand or the dealers. In land based casinos as mans as 5 people can be seated at a table so there are basically 5 games going on all at once against the dealer. The reason these games are classified as “21 games” is because the object of the game is to gain 21 points in order to win, if the player goes over 21, they lose and the person closest to 21 wins.

Match Play 21 has some different rules from Blackjack. This game is played with two decks each with the 10 cards taken out of it. The game will offer a more thrilling twist than Blackjack because it will be a little bit harder to obtain 21. When the dealer has a hard 17, they must stand. If the dealer has a soft 18 the dealer must stand as well. In this game players are able to surrender meaning they can walk away whenever they would like. If the player wants to ‘split’ they need to make sure it’s on a great hand because it is only allowed three times throughout a game. In the game of Match Play 21, on a split a Blackjack is not rewarded.

The game begins with the player making their wager. After the bets are in the dealer begins passing out the cards, first one to himself and then to each player at the table from left to right. The dealer then goes around the table again and gives a second card. This is when the player must decide if they want to remain in the game or surrender. Card values are pretty important to understand. Cards 2 – 9 are counted at face value. Jacks Queens & Kings are worth 10 points and aces are worth 10 or 1 points depending on the hand the player is given.

Here is a glossary of terms used in Blackjack & other 21 games:

Bust: When the player or the dealer goes over 21

Stand: When the player has a hand they don’t want to add more cards to because they are close to 21 already.

Hit: When the player would like another card from the dealer on their turn. This is typically when the player has less than 16 points on hand.

Double: When the player would like another card and has high hopes that they will win the hand without a bust, this is called a double down. The player will place an additional wager and ask for another card.

Split: The player will have a pair in their hand, in the game of Blackjack the player is able to split those hands and place a second ante bet for the new hand. The first hand comes first the player will hit until they are satisfied and then the next hand is played.

Blackjack: Ace & 10 Card.
